Mynaportal photo upload: steps and error fixes

Updated: June 11, 2026

Passport renewals and some other procedures can be filed online through Mynaportal, and the application requires uploading a face photo. This is where many applications stall. Here is the general flow and the most common errors. Screens and conditions change, so always check the latest Mynaportal and MOFA guidance.

The upload flow

  • 1.Log in to Mynaportal and open the passport application menu
  • 2.At the photo step, choose to take a photo on the spot or upload a saved one
  • 3.Fit your face to the on-screen guide frame
  • 4.Check the automated photo check result and submit

Common errors and fixes

  • File too large: domestic applications expect a JPEG of roughly 600 KB or less. Straight-from-camera photos are usually several MB, so resize first.
  • Face position or size out of spec: the check rejects heads that are too small or too large for the guide frame. Pre-cropped, spec-sized data passes reliably.
  • Background or shadow rejections: use a plain light background with no shadows on the face or wall.
  • Format errors: submit JPEG. Screenshots or HEIC files can fail.

Prepare a spec-ready file first

Passpo-chan's free preview adjusts a phone photo to a white background and the right framing, and exports a JPEG sized for domestic online submission (600 KB or less). You see the result for free before paying. Printing instead? See the konbini print guide.
